Laura Ries on Google

Laura Ries has some quotes that are gems in her latest entry about Google:

"Google is a branding success story . . . . The name alone is branding genius. Short, simple, unique, different."

"Google has its tentacles in way too many divergent businesses."

"I am very concerned for the Google brand and Google stock holders. No brand can stand for everything and dominate every market."
Indeed, "google" follows important naming principles. Notably, it was a "blank slate" with no resemblance to the product.

Time will tell whether Google's rumored and actual forays into divergent businesses will pan out for them.
