Tim Bonnemann writes about agile product development:

"Agility is about paying attention and reacting. You can’t not make mistakes. What you can do is figure out you made a mistake quickly and react accordingly."

The inevitable mistakes and oversights occur not just with product design and implementation, but with product requirements, marketing messages, and pricing. Thus product managers, not just developers, must participate in the agile process.

I always thought Lean Software Development was a good representive of the whole "you're gonna make mistakes, build a process that takes advantage of/helps fix that fact" part of Agile thinking.
