A few years ago, the parking lot of my gym was full, so members were struggling to find a place to park. As I parked across the street in a large lot in the same shopping center, I noticed a member parking on the side of the street near the gym. There was a no-parking sign with arrows pointing in both directions, indicating that it was illegal to park there. What was strking about this experience, though, was the fact that the person chose to park right under the sign.
We all break rules. Sometimes breaking the rules is justified, sometimes it's not. I plead guilty to both. But I've noticed that there are certain people who flagrantly violate rules and seem surprised - even outraged - when they are punished for it.
